Digital Fluency Intensive Day 3
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
'Being in a world full of playfully creative people'
Our classes would be fun, engaging and fun. The create aspect give children the opportunity to express themselves.
Teachers are adult learners, we are learning to make our lessons more creative and acknowledge learner creativity.
Create isn't expected to be before learn. You can 'create' and then expand the learning.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Making a YouTube playlist means that I will be able to put the videos that are for my learners into a playlist, embed it onto my site. This means that there will be no ads or suggested videos that come up. It can be helpful because sometimes on YouTube, things pop up that you don't want to see, especially my learners. This is definitely a tool that I will use.Google Slides can be simple, but can also be quite complex. When creating a Google Slides presentation, as the presenter you have to remember that you are telling the story and the slides are there to be the 'picture'. As people say, pictures tell 1000 words. You can use pictures that tell your story and then say your speech.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Google DrawingsGoogle Drawings can be a tool for any task. You can trace existing images or create your own.
You would trace from the big parts first, which can be quite difficult. When using Google Drawing, you need to think carefully about the tools that you are using. For example, there are two different tracing lines you can use, the curve or polyline tool
Use shade to add more detail
Zoom when drawing smaller details
Sharp edges and straight lines: use polyline
Curves: use curve
If you make a mistake, you can finish the lines, press on the arrow, double click your drawing and rearrange the purple dots.
This is the image that I chose online to trace. You can find it here.
This is my traced version of the flower.
I made this drawing of myself on Google Drawing and I made this
poster on Google Slides.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
I am able to use Google Drawing to create things myself instead of finding images that must be accredited. It is much more fun drawing than it is to search. I also think that by learning about live-streaming (with Kent Somerville), and maybe even learning to use the camera gear, I will definitely grow more confident with technology, and even YouTube.
Great job Sarah...I can see that you were in your element today when we were creating, I hope to see it flow across into your lessons.
