Digital Fluency Intensive Day 4
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
'Share' in the Manaiakalani pedagogy is very important and has been around for a long time. I know this as I used to go to point England School as a child and a lot of our learning was shared around the world. It was implemented to show others what we had been working on. Share is a big part of the pedagogy and it allows children to not only show whānau what they have been working on, but also to being able to connect to the world that we are in. Learners are able to establish an authentic audience, not only from New Zealand, but around the world. The mode of sharing is always changing, but the human response is always there, and we are giving learners the skills, tooling and purpose to operate in the world they are in.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Google Maps: Using data that I got from Google Forms, I am able to import information from Google Sheets onto a new map. I feel that I still have lots of learning to do when using Google Maps but there is so much you can do, even for personal life.
Google sheets: I was able to learn how to freeze rows/columns, how to get a sum or average for data, filter information, and find graphs that display data. This would be helpful for my workflow as a professional by using sheets to collate my data and by looking at progress of my learners.
I created this graph using Google Sheets. This data shows how many blog posts per month a few of my learners have shared. It gives me an insight into who is sharing their work and who is still to share.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I learnt how to connect Google Forms, Google Sheets and Google Maps to share information. At DFI, we filled in a Google Form, waited for the information to collate, and then imported it onto a Google Map. It was fun and interactive. I found that this could be something that I can do with my learners. This would be an awesome way to get to know your child better.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Google Maps could be a great app that I could use to track travels. When I have plans of travelling, I can upload different photos and information about where I went and what I got up to. I would be able to share it with family and friends, and maybe even make a blog post sharing my journey!
