Inquiry 2020
The core learning area that I will be inquiring into is Maths and I am hoping to lift the achievement of Maths for the learners in my classroom.
My inquiry question is: How do I meet the needs of my learners in Maths when using an integrated perspective (Numeracy Project & DMIC)
As a beginning teacher and starting at Point England, I was introduced to the DMIC approach of Maths. I wasn’t able to observe how Maths was taught through the Numeracy Project approach. I have sat through many DMIC P.D’s where I have come to have an understanding of how DMIC runs, and now I’m sitting in P.D’s listening to Numeracy Project terms and have come out confused. Using the great things I have learnt from DMIC, I am hoping to integrate this with the new knowledge I gain whilst learning more about the Numeracy Project.
Some steps that I am hoping to take to change my practice include becoming familiar with the Numeracy Project Booklets, team-planning and team-teaching with my mentor and observing a senior teacher (someone who has taught Maths when DMIC wasn’t around and has a better understanding of the booklets).
