Team 4 Learning

This term, Team 4 has been learning about different countries around the world. We are exploring location, people, culture, food, sport, animals and wildlife, and even pop-culture. We started our learning from Italy, moved onto France and Belgium, then headed to Brazil. Now we find ourselves in the Great White North - Canada. Our team of teachers have introduced things about these countries to our learners that are different to what they know, and are exposing them to the world outside of New Zealand.

We create different tasks daily, allowing them to use their chromebooks as a research tool to find new information about the different countries we learn about weekly. We start off with a video of the day that leads them to finding 4 facts to write in their own words about the learning for the day.

This then leads to reading. Us teachers will find different sources of information depending on the day. Each day usually consists of different subjects (Monday - People, Culture & Language. Tuesday - Food. Wednesday - Landmarks. Thursday - Animals. Friday - Pop-culture). We use the different sources to write an article for the day to give our learners new information.

Extra readings are given for those learners who want to go off and learn more about this certain topic. A daily Research Presentation is made to encourage our learners to take their learning into their own hands. We even have supported work so that we can cater to each child's needs.

Writing for the day also suits the learning that is being done. Children are given writing tasks that suit the new information that they have learnt throughout the day. In the tasks that we create, we encourage our learners to practice their writing using the techniques we had focused on earlier in the year. Whether it is writing in paragraphs, using descriptive language, or even using different sentence structures.

Moving on to Maths, we like to give a range of tasks that the children can do to keep busy. Whether it is practicing basic facts, practicing number strategies or learning new strategies. Us teachers record videos to share of information that they would find useful. This rewindable teaching technique is a great resource for our learners to refer back to when they need to.

We also have a Design Task section. This allows us to see how creative some children can be. Whether we use Google Draw, or another resource that gets our learners creating, it is something fun for them to do. These tasks can also draw from the learning that has been done throughout the day. Our learners love showing us their designs, and we have seen how amazing their progress has been when utilizing the skills they have in Google Draw.

To give some of our learners the option, we have an audio book from David Walliams. We encourage them to listen to it to help them relax, especially after lunch time. Our learners love listening to the audio books, and usually can't wait to see what book they will be listening to next.

It is very heartwarming to see our learners be excited about their learning. As teachers, we are encouraging them everyday to learn something new. It's so great that our learners have their chromebooks as a learning tool, giving them access and opportunity to more learning.
