KPMG #2 Reflection

Today we met with our MIT cohort at KPMG. We have a get together every term to discuss our projects - what is working, what isn't, what is next and to get some feedback from our team.

Here is an update on my project.

What’s working?

Collaborating with Rebecca on this project is going well because we are looking at the same challenge but from different level perspectives. Our Google Meets with Dorothy and Rebecca went well. We discussed how we were feeling about our project and what we needed to do - look at resources, get in touch with the right people, continue testing. We also had a Google Meets with Matt to see where we were at with our project. From here we were able to discuss what we were creating and how we were going to go about it. Discussed what we could possibly be making and what to focus on doing next. I have also had the opportunity to start making some tools that I can use in my classroom. I used Google Sheets to make it, playing around with the different formula to make this a tool that can be used daily, with different questions. You can check it out here.

What’s not?

Started making templates for my learners to use but haven't had as much time as I would like for them to be using it. Making sure that both Rebecca and myself are able to work together and find time to meet to get our collaborative project done. What is it going to look like? Having discussions about what exactly we will be doing so that we can start making templates.

What’s next?

Have more conversations with my colleagues, get feedback, ideas? Collect more data from my learners - actually pinpoint what their "gaps" are and what I am actually going to focus on for my challenge. Collaborating with Rebecca - discussing what our templates will look like, what are we creating, when can we meet?
Title: Matauranga Pāngarau... work in progress. Means Maths Knowledge.

Feedback/Feed-forward from group

Changed our challenge statement to be the same - Along with the rest of New Zealand learners, a large number of our Year 5-8 students are below curriculum level expectation, due to gaps in their maths knowledge.
Think about the future of our tool. Will they still be using Maths books or is there a digital way that they can do their work… think about how they can write their answers and how they will be marked. Digital workbook?
We can use the tools we have already created as a competitive class “game” that can be refreshed every now and then to help drill in to our learners. How can we make this tool fun and engaging for our learners? How can we ensure that they are using this site without being told to use it?
Is this tool for a follow-up for a lesson or is this a “do now” task? What can it be used for?

I am looking forward to seeing what more I can do alongside my MIT colleagues.
