MIT Hangouts #1

Our MIT cohort had a Google Meets with Dorothy Burt. On these hangouts, we were able to share about how we were feeling going into Term 2 with our focus. We discussed what we had already done, and what we were planning to do later on in the term. The discussion was open for others to come into the hangouts, share any helpful resources, or give us any advice on what we could do next. It was a time to listen to any criticism, whether positive or negative, that we could use to help us move into the next steps for our challenges.

Some of my own thoughts and feelings going into Term 2 include:

  • how is my planning going to affect what learning is happening in the classroom?
  • what is the shared project going to look like? Will we be creating generic tasks?
  • how can I use some of the things that I learnt in DMiC, and what I am currently learning about the Numeracy Project to help identify what we are creating for our project?
  • catch up on readings that have come out about Maths in New Zealand, watch the documentary from Jack Tame (on demand), continue testing learners.
I was able to get time to speak to Rebecca Henderson. We have decided to collaborate on our project seeing as though we have a similar challenge. We were able to discuss a time and day that we could work solely on our project together. She was able to share with me what she has been doing, and what she was thinking for the project. I was able to share some of the things that I had been doing, and give her some feedback/feed-forward about my own professional experiences with Maths.

It was a good talk, and a great listen, to have with each other going into Term 2. It helps us to remember that we have these challenges that we are facing, and that we can do something about it.
