Reader Profile Survey Findings
My class took the Readers Profile Survey.
Some of my findings...
Most of my class had positive feelings towards reading (refer to slide 1). Which is a good thing for me - I just need to make sure that I find a way to maintain this feeling for my learners.
More than half of my learners aren’t reading a book for their own enjoyment, but 17 of them agree with thinking that reading in their own time can help them (refer to slide 2). Some things I can do to help with this is take them to the school library, and expose them the different texts/genres that they might not know about to gauge interest.
Most of my learners think they are good at reading, and their families think they’re good at reading (refer to slide 3-4). However, Majority of my class don’t think their teacher feels the same as them. I need to make sure that as their teacher, I am encouraging them and letting them know all the positives about their skills in reading. This can also help me as the teacher to choose my words more carefully. There are great responses (refer to slide 5) about what I can do to keep their interest and to make them feel better about their reading [skills].
The last thing that I noticed was that my learners do know a lot about the skills they needed to be a good reader (refer to slide 6). Something I can make sure I keep doing is referring back to the learning intention, and using language to ensure they know what skills we are looking at improving.
